Ashley's 1971 HQ LS 350ci Monaro

I got it when I was 21 & it was my dream car then & it still is now!
The engine was basically "mild" but it looked the same back then, after 13 years the body was getting a bit rusty, I found 2 original all steel doors, my doors where rusted badly & that gave me the push to go back to bare metal & get it ready for the next 30 years. I use the Monaro regularly & it has been extremely reliable over the years.

Nick from NT Automotive at Woodville in S.A. rebuilt the 350 Chev engine about 4 years ago, and what started out as just a pair of new heads, snowballed into a full rebuild, including 461 Double Hump Fuelies, Crane CC280 solid cam (range 3400rpm-6800rpm), Crane double valve springs, Manley 2.02 & 1.60 valves, Peter Jackson Gear Drive (noisy but I love it!) Weiand Team G Manifold, 750 Holley, Accell Billitek Race Electronic Dizzy, MSD 3 blaster coil, Crane Hi-6 Ignition Amplifier with rev limiter, etc.
Transmission is the bulletproof Turbo 400 with 3500rpm Dominator stall converter. The 10 bolt Salisbury shit itself during run-in so the Diff is now a Ford 9" with 3.7 Gears & Steel Hemisphere.

The body & paint turned out better than I expected, thanks to Kym at Waikerie Crash, S.A. - Excellent Work! The front & boot lid is not original HQ (obviously!) but that is how it looked when I bought it and it has really grown on me so I decided to keep it. It always will be my dream car, Australian Made!!!
Ive just finished getting the entire suspension re-done at Pedders. What a difference in ride! It was always a very hard ride, now it is still hard but comfortable as well, its perfect. Next on the list is the interior, I am still weighing up my options. I think I will just re-trim in same/original style. I plan on enjoying driving this car for another 50 years!!!

Ashley's HQ Monaro was last dyno result was 220 rwkw (Rear wheel Kilowatts)
He has since changed the inlet manifold and claims the boost in power 'is noticable'.
