Overview
|
| The Holden Monaro Register
is a proprietary club which was established in 1992 in readiness for the
25th anniversary of the Holden Monaro. In addition to '37' style vehicles, several "Monaro by Association" models are also included. These are - HQ SS and GTS 4 Door; HJ-X Monaro GTS Sedan; HZ GTS Sedan. The Monaro was General Motors-Holden's first serious attempt at producing a medium-full sized sports sedan. Until recently, the Holden Monaro did not enjoy the same recognition and subsequent status, nor the same prestige, particularly in resale value, as the Ford Falcon GT and GTHO models. For a car with a much more diverse heritage, this was indeed quite strange. Of late, the situation has changed for the better, helped along by events such as the Monaro 30th Anniversary Celebrations, Holden's 50th Anniversary and Monaros In The Millennium. The release of the awesome V2 Monaro and the Monaro : Driving You Wild event have ensured that an increased awareness in the Monaro is here to stay. There certainly are exciting times ahead. The Holden Monaro Register has attempted to address the lack of information on the various models. Gone are the days where an enthusiast was presented with the so called "facts", but discovered that the vehicle they own or had owned was not covered, or worse still, did not "officially" exist. The Holden Monaro Register has an extensive library of factory GMH material that can answer almost any question on any Monaro. Body Identification and VIN plate details of your vehicle together with the chassis number, build date, and original engine number would be very much appreciated. These facts and figures will form the basis of the database which can be cross-referenced with Holden's build records. This material is not available for general viewing. |

More
Information
|
| The Holden Monaro
Register was formalised in late 1993. A listing in the clubs directory of
Unique Cars magazine appeared the following year. During this time, work
began on the combined The Monaro Facts/The Monaro Story. From a collection
of build details of 10 HT GTS Monaros in 1979, the Holden Monaro Register
database now totals in excess of 16,500 vehicles. To date, in excess of
1800 examples have been identified and recorded and the Trim information
added to the database. The Holden Monaro Register is about the documentation of General Motors-Holden's (now Holden Ltd.) sports machine, the Holden Monaro. The primary objective of the Holden Monaro Register is to assemble the complete list of examples produced over the eight-year period from 1968 - 1976. This information will comprise an extensive database from which comprehensive statistics pertaining to the Holden Monaro can be drawn. The Holden Monaro Register encompasses all territories in which the vehicle was originally sold, either as a Holden or Chevrolet badged vehicle. By definition, a Monaro is a two-door Holden coupe characterised by a 37 body style. Because of the nature of motor vehicle marketing strategies, some additional Holden product must be included 'by association'. The inclusions in the Holden Monaro Register are four-door vehicles namely, HQ series models 80269XV2, 80469XV4, 80469XW8, and HJ-HZ series model 8WQ69. Additional lists of these associated models are included in the Holden Monaro Register. The Holden Monaro Register will (where possible) provide appropriate accurate information to owners concerning their vehicle/s. This secondary objective is directed at correcting many long-running inaccuracies and general misinformation regarding the Holden Monaro. Parties providing vehicle identification details to the Holden Monaro Register will have no personal and/or other details recorded against the PSN (Production Serial Number) and/or other identifying numbers, either attached to and/or stamped into the vehicle or identifying components thereof. Vehicle registration details will not be recorded in a manner as to either identify the vehicle owner/s and/or the current registration status and/or location of the vehicle in question. The Holden Monaro Register is not an incorporated club in the regular sense of the term. It is a proprietry club and as such has no members. An interested party providing vehicle identification details does not "become a member of the Holden Monaro Register". The Holden Monaro Register does not offer and/or participate in club-related activities as such, with the exception of the preservation of identification details and provision of accurate data to approved parties. At appropriate times, extracts may be provided to assist various Monaro organisations and/or authoritative individuals concerning the objectives described above. The proprietor of the Holden Monaro Register will ensure the safe custody of any and all information provided by interested parties, along with any and all information collected by either the proprietor and/or persons directed to do so at the sole discretion of the proprietor. Such nominated persons will be representing the proprietor only in the capacity of information gathering. Such representatives will posses a keen interest as well as a high level of expertise regarding the Holden Monaro. Ben Stewart, May 2002. |
